Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens is urging people to follow health guidance and limit outdoor activities if they see a chemical plume or smell chlorine from the BioLab fire.

A fire broke out Sunday at the facility of a company that makes pool and spa treatments and sprinkler system water reacted with chemicals on site.

The winds are forecasted to shift, which officials warn could send the chlorine plume toward the City of Atlanta.

The Georgia Poison Center taking in nearly 700 calls about the Biolab Fire since it began Sunday morning, according to the center’s director Dr. Gaylord Lopez. “A good number of these people are calling in with symptoms consistent with exposure to chlorine and chlorine related compounds,

Conyers City Manager Kameron Kelley says local leaders are frustrated, as previous incidents also occurred at BioLab’s facility in 2004 and 2020.
