U.S. banks and their regulators will be on the hot seat on Wednesday, as lawmakers explore claims from conservatives and some companies that they deny services to particular industries or political groups.

The Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday took on the trend of major financial institutions “debanking” customers because of their politics.

While Republicans and Democrats found some agreement that consumers of all stripes should be included in the banking system, they differed wildly on who is to blame for banks dropping customers.
