Emory University sent out an active shooting alert to its Atlanta campus late this afternoon. Additional details about the situation were not immediately clear. The Atlanta Police Department is on scene investigating an active shooter, police said in a statement. Information is still being collected as the incident is still unfolding, police said.

Police did not release the officer’s name out of respect for the family. But they released details about his life and how he served his community.
