Following a challenging tenure under Jason Gillespie, the Pakistan Cricket Board is poised to appoint Aaqib Javed as the new head coach.

Gillespie was originally expected to continue at least till the upcoming Champions Trophy, as PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi previously was extremely happy with his appointment and considered him and Kirsten to be ‘best possible coaches’. However, neither of them lasted over a year.

PCB strongly refutes the story. As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa,' the Pakistan Cricket Board wrote in X post after the rumours of Aaqib Javed replacing Gillespie surfaced online on Sunday.

The announcement regarding Gillespie's dismissal may be made as early as Monday, coinciding with Pakistan's final T20I match against Australia.
