GitHub will soon allow cloud customers to store their code data in the European Union (EU), part of a growing push in the technology realm to meet regulatory requirements and customer expectations around data protection — particularly where sensitive information might be at play,

GitHub has announced that it will introduce data residency capabilities, beginning with EU developers on 29 October 2024.

The developer platform GitHub, which is owned by Microsoft, announced on Tuesday that it is enabling business customers to restrict the storage of their confidential software code to data centres situated within the European Union.
