North India is reeling from heavy rainfall and plunging temperatures, with the IMD issuing a hailstorm alert for Delhi and surrounding areas.

Rain lashed several parts of the national capital and adjoining areas on December 27, throwing traffic out of gear in many places. More rains are expected throughout the day, according to the weather service.

An Orange alert was issued due to heavy rainfall, disrupting traffic and causing waterlogging. IMD predicts more showers and an AQI of 'very poor' remains a concern.

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data till 11:30 am, the observatory at Safdarjung — the national capital’s primary weather station — recorded 9.1 mm rainfall.

Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana are expected to see severe cold temperatures and heavy rainfall, according to the weather service. The districts of Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh are under an orange alert,

The IMD has predicted cold day to severe cold day conditions in parts of Himachal Pradesh on December 27 and 28, along with thunderstorms in Delhi and other regions

The IMD has forecast a further drop in temperatures across the Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan regions over the next two days. Residents in the affected regions have been advised to prepare for colder conditions as the mercury dips further.

Temperature in Delhi stood at 13 degree Celsius at 7:23am as the weather department forecast heavy rain and strong winds for December 27th and 28th.

Coldwave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh on various days.
