Buffalo native Jessica Pegula is headed home after a stunning first-round 6-2, 6-3 defeat by No. 116 ranked Elisabetta Cocciaretto at Wimbledon.

On Tuesday at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club, American Jessica Pegula and German Alexander Zverev each were shockingly ousted in the opening round of the tournament. First came the stunning win by world No. 116 Elisabetta Cocciaretto of Italy, who knocked out Pegula 6-2, 6-3 in 58 minutes.

Third-seeded Jessica Pegula was upset in the first round at Wimbledon, losing 6-2, 6-3 to 116th-ranked Elisabetta Cocciaretto for the American’s earliest exit at a Grand Slam tournament in five years.
