A group linked to former Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams received a $2 billion grant from the Environmental Protection Agency as part of the $20 billion “gold bar scheme” alleged by the Department of Government Efficiency.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said this week he plans to work with the Department of Justice and the Inspector General’s

“Fortunately, my awesome team at EPA has found the gold bars,” Zeldin says, talking about $20 billion in funding for groups including a coalition of nonprofits called Climate United. The coalition was awarded close to $7 billion through one of the programs of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, although Zeldin doesn’t specifically name the GGRF.

Back to the EPA money The two grant programs that Zeldin targeted are the $14 billion National Clean Investment Fund, or green bank, and the $6 billion Clean Communities Investment Accelerator program, which aims to build green lending capacity at institutions that serve low-income communities.

The Biden EPA, he claimed, had awarded the $20 billion to eight entities which used the funds with insufficient oversight. Zeldin argued all the "gold bars" which were "tossed off the Titanic" must be returned. Zeldin noted he will refer the matter to the EPA Inspector General’s Office, as well as work with the Department of Justice.
