(Reuters) -Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has pledged hundreds of billions of dollars towards building massive data centers, days after ratcheting up the AI race with the launch of a division made up of engineers poached from rivals he hopes to challenge.

Meta has recruited Matt Deitke, co-founder of Seattle-based AI startup Vercept, to join its newly formed Superintelligence Lab — the high-profile effort by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to develop powerful new forms of artificial intelligence.

The battle between Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and OpenAI’s Sam Altman for the industry’s top AI talent shows no signs of cooling off. This time, Zuckerberg appears to have secured two more researchers from OpenAI.

Mark Zuckerberg said on Monday that Meta Platforms would spend hundreds of billions of dollars to build several massive AI data centers for superintelligence, intensifying his pursuit of a technology he has chased with a talent war for top engineers.
