Microsoft isn't slowing down. The world's second-largest company by market cap reported blockbuster fourth-quarter earnings, sending shares surging so high after hours that the tech giant is set to become a member of the exclusive $4 trillion club.

Microsoft Corp. is set to become the second company in the world to reach a $4 trillion market capitalization after reporting quarterly earnings that beat Wall Street’s expectations, sending the stock soaring in extended trading Wednesday.

And both Meta and Microsoft were already on track to spend more than 30% of this year’s revenue on capital expenditures, compared with about 15% to 20% historically. Those outlays were already beginning to look like mere table stakes after Google parent Alphabet used its report last week to bump up its own capex spending plans for this year to $85 billion.
