With depth at first base and other needs still pressing, the Texas Rangers on Sunday parlayed a suddenly active market at first into further addressing one existing issue (the bullpen) and potentially opening the path for more additions via free agency.

The Washington Nationals have acquired first baseman Nathaniel Lowe from the Texas Rangers in exchange for lefty reliever Robert Garcia, the teams announced Sunday. Lowe, 29, is a former Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Award recipient who won't qualify for free agency until after the 2026 campaign.

Washington acquired the 29-year-old, who had 16 home runs last season and won a Gold Glove in 2023, from the Rangers for reliever Robert Garcia.
