The temporary ceasefire saw around 100 Israeli and other hostages freed by Hamas while 240 Palestinian detainees and prisoners were freed. Israel also, briefly, allowed more humanitarian aid into Gaza. When it broke down, both Israel and Hamas accused each other of wrecking the negotiations to extend it.

The negotiations, mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, appear to be making progress after months of failed attempts to achieve a breakthrough.
