An early morning 4.2-magnitude earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay Area and the Monterey Bay area in California, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The 4-mile deep quake hit 2 miles from Aromas, about a 45-mile drive south from San Jose, at 2:47 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, according to the USGS.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake was reported about 2 miles north-northwest of Aromas, California, about 2:47 a.m. PT. The earthquake was reported at a depth of about 4.5 miles.
