Central Texas is bracing for a winter storm expected to bring freezing rain and extreme cold to the area through the weekend.

Thursday is National Weatherperson's Day. It is celebrated on Feb. 5 to honor the birthday of one of America's first weather observers, John Jeffries.

Austin remains under an Ice Storm Warning until noon Sunday.
