10 years ago, the Blizzard of 2016 made history as Lehigh Valley’s biggest snowfall of all time

A blizzard is a couple of giant steps above a winter storm. According to the National Weather Service, a storm officially qualifies as a blizzard when winds reach or exceed 35 mph and when the visibility drops to only a quarter mile or less. These conditions need to stay active for at least 3 hours.

The major storm is set to hit starting on Jan. 23 and will stretch into the weekend, spreading snow and ice from the southern Plains to the Northeast.

As Knoxville braces for the next winter storm, just remember: back in 1993, a blizzard buried the city. Do you remember that storm?
