U.S. consumer spending increased moderately in September after three straight months of solid gains, suggesting a loss of momentum in the economy at the end of the third quarter as a lackluster labor market and rising cost of living curbed demand.

The Commerce Department reported Friday that core prices increased by 2.8 percent compared to September of last year, excluding food and energy costs.

In addition, tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump saw priced goods spike 0.5% with services up 0.2% in cost, food prices up 0.4% and energy up 1.7%.
