NEW YORK — New York Attorney General Letitia James and JBS USA reached a $1.1 million settlement in a lawsuit alleging the meat processor misled the public about its commitment to reduce greenhouse gases.

JBS’s false advertising settlement comes as Big Ag prepares to spread propaganda at the U.N. climate conference.

The agreement requires JBS USA to pay $1.1m to fund “climate‑smart” agricultural programmes for New York farms.

BEARDSTOWN, ILL. — JBS USA confirmed that a small worker protest took place at the company’s Beardstown, Ill., facility this week.

The American subsidiary of the leading global beef and poultry producer will financially back sustainable agriculture programs for farmers in the state under the settlement.

Shares of Brazilian meat giant JBS fell 3.9% in as they made their debut Friday on the New York Stock Exchange. Trading in New York has been a long-held goal for JBS, which was founded 72 years ago and is now one of the world’s largest meat companies.
