Carter entered the NBA in 2018 as a second-round, 32nd overall pick. He was selected out of West Virginia by the Memphis Grizzlies. After seeing the court as a rookie for 39 games, Carter was traded to the Phoenix Suns in an offseason deal. He spent two seasons with the Suns before making his way to the Brooklyn Nets in 2021 via trade.
