Netflix casting won't work on many Chromecast and Google TV devices anymore
Netflix has begun phasing out Chromecast support, removing casting from most TVs. Only older Chromecast models and built-in Google Cast still work.
You should still be able to cast from your phone or tablet to older Chromecast or Google Cast devices if you're on an ad-free plan.
With the move, Netflix has all but eliminated the ability to stream Netflix videos from phones. As Android Authority notes, there are a couple of exceptions: Casting to older Chromecast devices without remotes still works, as does casting to Google Cast-enabled TVs.
This latest example, while widely decried as yet more enshittification from Netflix, doesn’t quite follow the same well-worn path.
Netflix has discontinued mobile casting support for most smart TVs and new Chromecast devices, pushing users to rely on native TV apps instead. The change impacts convenience, travel use, and cross-device streaming.
