As people across the country prepare to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., communities in the Big Country are coming together for a morning of reflection and celebration. Hardin-Simmons University will host its fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr.

The Kingdom Day Parade, volunteer fests, and concerts will spotlight the civil rights leader’s works, deeds, and legacy.

From the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks will take the court. Out West, the two teams are the reigning champions Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend will be cooler, but will still have some sunshine. According to a forecast from the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures will be chilly over the holiday weekend with highs in the 30s and 40s. Overnight, temperatures will drop into the teens and 20s by Jan. 18.
