An off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in a Manhattan park on Saturday following an apparent robbery gone wrong, New York City police and federal officials said.

NEW YORK (TNND) — An off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was shot during a robbery in Riverside Park in Manhattan on Saturday by a suspect who entered the country illegally, according to the New York Police Department.

An off-duty Customs and Border Patrol agent was shot in New York City’s Riverside Park late Saturday night in an alleged robbery that did not appear to target him because of his job, police said.
