SMU, Dayton, UC Irvine and San Francisco secured No. 1 seeds for the 2025 NIT. The 32-team field was announced Sunday with action beginning Tuesday at campus sites. The tournament will culminate in Indianapolis, Indiana with semifinals on April 1 and the championship game on April 3.

Thirty-two teams will begin their quests for the NIT title on Tuesday and Wednesday. The top seeds have the advantage on paper across the first three rounds since the games are hosted on campus sites.

The NCAA has some serious explaining to do after an embarrassing mistake involving the University of South Alabama Men's Basketball team.

South Alabama coach Richie Riley explained the situation to AL.com, too. Riley said the Jaguars were offered a spot for NIT on Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. South Alabama ended up getting the invite because UC Riverside, who had received the invite first, had to decline to play in the College Basketball Invitation.
