Tropical Cyclone Alfred crossed the Moreton Bay islands at 1am AEST and is expected to hit the mainland coast, between Maroochydore and Bribie Island, early on Saturday morning.More than 4 million people are now in the firing line of the category 1 storm as it tracks from Noosa to Byron Bay and Ballina.

Severe weather warnings remain in some eastern parts of Australia recovering from ex-tropical cyclone Alfred. Flood warnings ranging from minor to major still apply in northern New South Wales - with rain expected to ease - and southeast Queensland.
