A major winter storm set to slam the U.S. later this week has shifted its path slightly before it arrives on Friday.

Fresh forecast maps for the January 2026 United States winter storm show the system bending sharply north at the last minute, a shift that drags tens of millions of additional people into the bull’s-eye.

Several emergency declarations have already been issued as a massive winter storm barrels toward more than 35 states, putting more than 200 million people in its path and threatening “considerable disruption” to New York with up to a foot of snow.

A number of Florida cities, including Tallahassee, deployed crews as Winter Storm Fern dumps snow and ice over more than two dozen states.

Flight cancellations at Tallahassee International Airport are piling up this weekend due to a mammoth winter storm that is icing over a large swath of the eastern United States.

Impacts from what could be the most significant storm of winter are expected to begin on Friday, spreading ice, snow and cold across much of the U.S.

Millions of Americans across the South are forecast to be slammed by ice storms in the coming days as crippling ice accretion threatens widespread power outages, major transportation disruptions, falling trees and downed power lines.

President Trump, who plans to remain in Washington over the weekend, is being briefed regularly about the storm, the White House said.
