A 23-year-old man faces attempted murder and assault charges after he allegedly pushed another man onto New York City subway tracks as a train approached, police say.

The suspect ran away but authorities said they had a man in custody who was being questioned. A woman who died after being set on fire on a New York City subway train this month has been identified, according to police.

A subway rider was pushed onto Manhattan tracks and hit by a train, miraculously surviving with only a head injury. The 45-year-old victim was shoved by a suspect with a criminal history at the 18th Street station.

The woman, Debrina Kawam, had a New Jersey address, according to NYPD. Kawam died on Dec. 22 after being set on fire while inside a New York subway train.
