The volunteer-led 50501 movement — which stands for 50 protests in 50 states on 1 day — has organized several national peaceful protests since February. The group is responsible for the April 5 "Hands off!" demonstration and the June 14 "No Kings" protest.
CHICAGO — Civil rights activist and Georgia congressman John Lewis was known for saying he got into "good trouble" by using peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice. Now, in 1,600 cities and towns across the country, protesters are planning to make similar "good trouble" on July 17, the fifth anniversary of Lewis' death.
It was the latest in a series of demonstrations since President Donald Trump began his second term. The protest have often drawn hundreds in the Tri-Cities, with at least two others involving more than 1,000 demonstrators. The No Kings Protest was the largest, with more than 2,500 people in attendance.
The Soros-backed Indivisible Project has rolled out an activism recruitment program aimed at training 1 million anti-Trump protesters "to fight back."
