Condemned South Carolina inmate Brad Sigmon has chosen to die next month by a firing squad, a method of execution that has not been used in the U.S. in 15 years.

Brad Sigmon, 67, was sentenced to death in 2002 for fatally beating his ex-girlfriend's parents while trying to kidnap the woman in Greenville County in 2001.

Sigmon is the first inmate in SC to select the state's newly implemented firing squad over lethal injection or electric chair.
