Taiwan issued a warning on Monday ahead of the arrival of Typhoon Krathon, which has strengthened into the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane and is expected to cross the densely populated west coast bringing torrential rain and strong winds.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Typhoon Krathon will have the greatest impact on the country from Tuesday to Thursday (Oct. 1-3). CWA meteorologist Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) Monday said that Krathon will intensify as it approaches Taiwan and all areas in its path should be prepared for wind and rain.

Tropical storm Krathon is headed for the Philippines as authorities place northern parts of the main Luzon island on alert, saying there’s a high chance of rapid intensification and the possibility it could become a super typhoon.

Lin said the typhoon is forecasted to make landfall between Kaohsiung and Pingtung and then head northeast. Lin said the north, northeast, and east are more likely to see closures due to the typhoon, while the south also has a chance, but specific announcements must be made by local officials.

Krathon, categorised as a medium strength typhoon, is forecast to hit the major port city of Kaohsiung early on Wednesday, then work its way across the bottom tip of Taiwan and cross out into the Pacific, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said on Monday.
