Thailand’s government on Monday announced new relief measures for victims of one of the country’s worst floods in decades, weeks before an anticipated call for snap elections.

The death toll from severe flooding in southern Thailand has climbed to more than 80 people. Officials said Thursday the floodwaters have started to subside and are expected to recede below river banks in every impacted area by Thursday evening.
