A woman was stabbed and later died, and an off-duty police detective who witnessed the attack suffered a gunshot wound, in the Portage Park neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.The attacker was also later found dead.

The detective suffered a graze wound to the leg while trying to stop the attacker, but police did not specify if the attacker had a gun or shot the detective. Darius Johnson reports from Portage Park.

An investigation is underway on Tuesday afternoon after an off-duty Chicago police officer was injured in a shooting and a second person was fatally stabbed on the city's Northwest Side.

Paramedics responding about 2:20 p.m. to the 5600 block of West Leland Avenue found the woman stabbed to death and the man suffering from a gunshot wound, Chicago Fire Department officials said.
