Southwest Airlines allows passengers to book assigned seats, new fare classes for travel starting on January 27, 2026.

Choice Extra passengers can choose an extra-legroom seat, Southwest's premium seating option. Depending on their status, Southwest Rapid Rewards members can select seats without paying extra.

Choice Extra fares qualify for same-day changes and same-day standby. Fares are refundable when canceled and flights can be changed at no extra charge other than the fare difference.

The Choice Extra bundle is the most inclusive in Southwest's new matrix and includes access to extra legroom and preferred seats, along with two free checked bags.

The airline is also introducing new, tiered fare bundles: Choice Extra, Choice Preferred, Choice, and Basic. Several new routes to, from, and within Florida will be added or increased in 2025.
