A Columbia official said more than 65 Columbia students were placed on “interim suspension pending further investigation.” A total of 33 people, including from affiliated institutions, were barred from Columbia’s campus. Alumni who joined the demonstration were also barred from campus, the university official said.

Columbia University in New York City has suspended more than 65 students for their role in an anti-Israel protest at a campus library earlier this week, a Columbia official said on Friday.The suspended students are on interim suspension pending further investigation.

On Wednesday afternoon, a group of around 100 anti-genocide student protesters took over the Butler Library’s main reading room and renamed it the “Basel Al-Araj Popular University,” after the Palestinian activist and writer killed by Israeli forces in 2017.
