Manatee County commissioners voted Tuesday morning to stop adding fluoride to county drinking water. The vote was 5-1 to stop adding the mineral.

Lakeland had been one of the five cities in Polk County that still adds fluoride to its drinking water, along with Bartow, Auburndale, Haines City and Lake Alfred.

A lease agreement between the city of Madison and Madison Utilities was approved at Monday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, reestablishing a monthly payment that had previously occurred.
