President Donald Trump’s deadline for Russia to end its war in Ukraine or suffer severe economic punishment expires Friday, but it’s unclear how he plans to proceed amid new efforts toward a summit with Vladimir Putin and delicate trade negotiations with China.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Thursday that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin even if the Russian leader won’t meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in comments that suggested the U.S. and Russia could soon hold a summit.

Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter flew to Washington on Tuesday to seek talks with the Trump administration over the steep 39% tariff imposed on Switzerland. But Keller-Sutter was only able to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, not with any of the primary tariff negotiators.
