Logan Thompson made 32 saves in his hometown one day after signing a contract extension with Washington, helping the Capitals beat the host Calgary Flames 3-1 on Tuesday night.

They helped broker the trade between the Avalanche and Hurricanes because by doing so they could get a third-round draft pick for Taylor Hall, who is in the last year of his contract and is a pending unrestricted free agent.
