✏️This is shorthand for what we call the 1:1:1 rule. If a word has one syllable with one vowel, followed by just one constant then you double that constant before adding a suffix – when the suffix begins with the vowel. ✨The reason this works in first grade is because almost every suffix taught at that point starts with a vowel!
