On January 6, 1945, the mission of the 2nd Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment (GIR), was to advance through the town of Brux—considered No Man's Land—and secure the right sector of the Thiers del Preux hill mass, approximately 1,000 yards southeast of Brux.
