Adolf Hitler gave a famous speech announcing the Anschluss (annexation of Austria) from the balcony of Vienna’s Hofburg Palace on March 15, 1938. Standing before a massive crowd of around 200,000 people at Heldenplatz (Heroes’ Square), Hitler proclaimed Austria’s entry into the German Reich.
