The Zoo is hearing the pitter patter of hooves with the new addition of a zebu calf born April 2! The male calf was born weighing just 26 pounds and standing only two feet tall. Zebu are one of the planet’s oldest and smallest breed of cow! Ravi, our zebu calf, has been bottle fed since birth due to lack of milk production from his mother. He is in the process of being weaned, so he is now receiving one bottle of formula in the morning. He currently spends the rest of his day grazing, eating hay, and has just recently shown interest in grain.
