A Gridley man has been released from jail after pleading guilty to a hate crime shooting. Elvis Lee Ellison, 40, appeared in Butte County Superior Court on Monday to begin his jury trial. This is when a judge made an indicated sentence of probation if he pleaded guilty. As a result, Ellison pleaded guilty to shooting at an inhabited dwelling and admitted an enhancement that the conduct was racially motivated and thus a hate crime.
