On April 13, GOES-16 (GOES East) captured a von Kármán vortex street off of Guadalupe Island. A von Kármán vortex street is a repeating pattern of swirling vortices, caused by a process known as vortex shedding. In meteorology, this vortex shedding is responsible for the unsteady flow of atmospheric air over obstacles, like islands and isolated mountains.
